Nursing News Now: Orbit migration and new documentation

What:

Orbit is now scheduled to be unavailable Friday, October 29, 6:00pm CST – Monday, November 1, 6:00am CST*.

Why:

Both the Orbit web and mobile application platforms will be migrated to Azure Cloud to better align with ITG technology standards, provide more flexibility and expand for future features and capabilities.

How:

When the Orbit platform migration is complete, the web and mobile client will receive an update to utilize the Azure Cloud.

  • Any web bookmarks and links of Orbit will redirect to the new Orbit web home page.
  • iMobile/Shared Device Users: the update will automatically push to all devices in the charging stations; users will no longer be able to login to legacy builds of Orbit mobile, so the update must occur by docking.
  • Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Users: the Orbit application will update automatically if “auto update” is on; otherwise, BYOD users will need to update the Orbit mobile app by going to the HCA app catalog.

Downtime procedure:

  • Revert to paper rounding procedures.
  • During the downtime, all patient data will continue to be captured and available in the application once the migration is complete and the application is restored.

Support:

Contact your local helpdesk or PSS if you need assistance updating a BYOD or iMobile device with the newest version of Orbit.

*The dates for the downtime are subject to change; please select “ALL.DL Flash Orbit” to subscribe to flash messages for up-to-date communications.

New documentation available to patients

The Information Blocking rules from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) require all healthcare providers, including HCA Healthcare, to make certain documents available to patients. For example, notes made available in the patient portal since these rules went into effect include pathology reports, radiology reports and consultation notes. As we continue to align with these regulations, behavioral health notes and alcohol overdose and intoxication reports will begin to be available to patients in their portals starting October 26. We are working with the Behavioral Health service line to ensure that allowable exceptions to the rule (e.g., psychotherapy notes) are documented in dedicated sensitive information notes that will be excluded from the patient portal.

Vaccine tracking (COVID-19 and flu)

The new Vaccine Tracker application for flu will be LIVE on Monday, September 20. Participants across HCA Healthcare will utilize Vaccine Tracker to document their consent, declination, or upload a file to show they have already received the flu vaccine.

Crush the Crisis

HCA Healthcare’s 2021 Crush the Crisis will once again collaborate with the DEA’s National Drug Take Back Day, Saturday, October 23 from 10:00am ‐ 2:00pm local time.

Student loan assistance program: are you leaving money on the table?

The HCA Healthcare Student Loan Assistance Program offers monthly benefits of $100 (full-time) or $50 (part-time) up to a lifetime maximum for qualifying education loans, a streamlined process through Bright Horizons EdAssist Solutions with payments made directly to loan providers and free and unlimited one-on-one financial guidance sessions.

The pause on student loan payments and interest for individuals with federal student loans extends through January 31, 2022. You may still wish to make payments toward your loan during this time to take advantage of its interest-free status. However, if you can’t, payments will still be made on your behalf toward eligible loans, even while your loan is in a forbearance status, as long as you meet all other policy requirements.

To review the policy, go to HCAhrAnswers.com and enter Student Loan in the search box. For more details and to apply, log on to HCAhrAnswers.com, click HCA Rewards and select Education Assistance. If your facility does not use HCA hrAnswers, log on to HCArewards.com and click Education Assistance.
