Nursing News Now: Wireless Bed Exit Optimization

Sammie Mosier, DHA, MA, BSN, NE-BC Senior Vice President and Chief Nurse Executive

Each month, I see the work of our Dynamic Care Team strategy pillar in action. For this pillar, our goal is to optimize care team models to best match clinical expertise with patient needs

This pillar helps ensure nurses feel supported and able to do their best work. We embrace new approaches to meet the needs of both our patients and care teams. We have introduced new roles, and we are developing tools based on the research insights of our nursing teams that are designed to reduce administrative burden and give nurses more time with their patients and teams. We recognize that our nurses deserve to spend their time doing what they do best: caring for patients. To tackle this, we will work to best match clinical expertise with patient needs through standardizing resources and investing in additional technology.

In 2024, our Dynamic Care Team priorities are:

‌Thank you for your commitment to a “we” approach to care teams and healthcare - this is fundamental, going forward, in providing the highest-quality care to our patients.

I am grateful for each one of you. Thank you for your contribution and collaboration.

Nurse Forward Strategy

Wireless Bed Exit Alert Optimization

Due to the high number of alerts from Mobile Heartbeat, bed exit alerts will be redirected to the care team only, as opposed to all on unit. Instead of alerting those in proximity, the alerts will go straight to the caregiver’s iMobile device./p>

Currently, bed exit optimization alerts are in progress for North Texas, Continental, West Florida, Gulf Coast, Far West, and Mountain divisions. Tristar, MidAmerica, North Florida and South Atlantic divisions can expect the optimization in the coming months with the project live enterprise-wide by the end of September 2024.

Learn more about Wireless Bed Exit Alert Optimization on our Nurse Call SharePoint or contact the team at Corp.NursingInformatics@HCAHealthcare.com with any questions.
