Doctors and nurses work around the clock and holidays are no exception. It’s Karen Bidgood’s mission to make their birthday the best-- especially when it falls on a holiday. On December 31, when most people are counting down to the start of the New Year, nurses like Karen Bidgood, who works at Rose Medical Center, are focused on helping moms and newborns begin their big day. “There’s a lot of professions where you work the holidays,’ said Bidgood. “It’s expected. We decorate. I take a big bag of candy and fill stockings for all the nurses in our unit.” Bidgood has been working in women’s health for 40 years and is a nurse in the mom and baby unit. She helps take care of new moms and babies shortly after birth. Babies born on New Year’s Day at Rose Medical Center get a gift basket that includes gift cards. “The neat thing about it, is they’ll remember this holiday and the special gift they got,” said Bidgood.
