Innovation and inspiration
As we navigate our day-to-day journeys in healthcare, it also is important to keep an eye on the future. For this reason, last year we launched our office of Care Transformation and Innovation (CT&I), establishing a dedicated team working elbow to elbow with frontline colleagues to improve patient care.
We work hard to learn from colleagues what is working, what is not…and where we have opportunities. While the healthcare industry in general has a long way to go in terms of innovation, we are working toward understanding and addressing building blocks that will lead to big picture healthcare transformation. Learn more about CT&I efforts below, and discover one nurse’s journey from the bedside to clinical transformation leader here.
Leadership Development
Last week, 38 HCA Healthcare Chief Nursing Officers (CNOs), selected by their Division Chief Nurse Executives, participated in the second cohort of our 2022 CNO Leadership Development Workshop. The workshop provides an opportunity for CNOs to develop skills designed to drive strategic leadership and execution. Over the course of the 3-day workshop, CNOs learned about Leading with Emotional Intelligence, Translating Data into Meaningful Solutions, Communicating with Impact, Executive Presence and more.
If you’re interested in learning about development opportunities or other ways to grow your career at HCA Healthcare, talk to your leaders. We offer many ways to support you in your professional journey.
Resource Councils
We recently launched Nurse Resource & Partnership Councils at divisions and facilities to drive efficiencies among our partners that support nursing. These councils bring together key stakeholders to solve operational challenges, drive engagement and elevate resources needed to corporate teams. Partners bring performance data and supporting projects to monthly meetings, based on guidance on what data to provide and how to access. The goal is to offer a communication and accountability framework for the teams to take meaningful action.
We already are beginning to see these councils remove barriers for nurses. In addition, our nurse engagement scores increased in our most recent Vital Voices survey, with a strong correlation between the RN Engagement Index and HOS RN Resource score. We are optimistic that we’ll continue to see improvement in these areas thanks to the councils.
All of this work — to provide necessary resources, develop leaders and inspire innovation — will help us navigate this challenging time for the nursing industry and healthcare generally. As always, please continue to lend your voice to conversations about how to improve patient care and your experience.

Innovation Corner: Office of Care Transformation & Innovation
Since its founding, HCA Healthcare has embraced innovation to continually improve care for patients. But the COVID-19 pandemic brought a new level of urgency, igniting a need for big change in healthcare delivery to meet today’s demand for better, more efficient, more effective patient care.
As part of our commitment to innovation, in 2021 we launched HCA Healthcare’s office of Care Transformation and Innovation (CT&I). Led by visionary clinicians and innovation leaders from our Clinical Services Group, CT&I is focused on accelerating the integration of processes and technology into patient care to address both current and anticipated industry challenges. The CT&I team works with front-line clinicians to identify opportunities for innovation, and works with them to test, measure and share solutions across the organization.
CT&I evaluates products and solutions at Innovation Hubs, hospitals that provide a living environment for design and testing through iterative cycles, allowing us to learn and quickly integrate changes. We also have Innovation Departments, where we’re conducting primary research to understand pain points and test CT&I products for effectiveness in high volume, high complexity environments.
