Sammie Mosier, DHA, MA, BSN, NE-BC Senior Vice President and Chief Nurse Executive
This month, we held our sixth annual Unit of Distinction Awards ceremony. Unit of Distinction celebrates how our nurses deliver safe, high-quality care with compassion and expertise. These awards highlight the positive outcomes from our nursing strategy and the work unites us all toward a common goal. It is a privilege to celebrate you, the individuals who drive patient care. You give voice to the needs of our patients and ensure our mission is lived out. You and your units are exemplary in every way, and the Unit of Distinction is a physical representation of the immeasurable mark you make on our patients, colleagues and communities every day. Every year, I look forward to celebrating you, and this year was no different.
The Unit of Distinction program represents a piece of the larger Professional Practice pillar of our nursing strategy. This pillar focuses on nurse-driven metrics (nursing sensitive indicators) to ensure delivery of high-quality care: pressure prevention and falls prevention practices, leveraging national designations to promote nurse engagement and drive outcomes: Magnet Recognition and Pathway to Excellence and nursing research to provide a continuous commitment to advancing knowledge: Knowledge Center and Ovid Discovery (HCA Healthcare Library).
Professional Practice is the heart of nursing excellence, and I am proud to lead you as we focus on quality-driven outcomes. Thank you for delivering excellent care to our patients and communities. Congratulations, again, to our Unit of Distinction winners and honorable mentions.

Expanse go-live update
The New Hampshire sites went live with Meditech Expanse January 18, and we are very grateful for the partnership and collaboration with those teams, helping us take this wonderful step toward an exciting future. It was amazing to see our nurses with the power of mobility in their hands.
Expanse comes with an app that allows nurses to use iMobile to review the patient’s chart, lab results and document assessments. This app also includes the ability to review the medication list - no more handwritten notes when going to the Pyxis and the ability to scan and document medication administration at the bedside.
With the move to Expanse, our New Hampshire facilities have also created one comprehensive medical record number for all patients between those three sites, allowing improved continuity of care for all caregivers with Health Information Exchanges no longer needed to see the records from a prior visit at a sister site.
Thank you to all who participated in the pilot. We are excited for Expanse to be implemented across our HCA Healthcare enterprise.
