Investing in our Colleagues
This week, HCA Healthcare announced a large-scale Investing in our Colleagues initiative, which includes $50 million in nursing equipment to address issues raised by colleagues, improve the work environment and support our commitment to patient care.
Thanks to your feedback and suggestions through regular Vital Voices surveys and employee rounding, each facility will be able to use its portion of the funds to invest where it’s needed most to enhance care delivery locally.
The Investing in our Colleagues initiative will also feature enhanced processes to close the loop after action is taken from your feedback. Watch for more information from division and facility leaders coming soon.
Care Transformation and Innovation
Recently, HCA Healthcare CEO Sam Hazen announced the development of a New Care Transformation and Innovation Department for our organization. Technological advancements in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, robotic process automation, and telemedicine, combined with investments HCA Healthcare is making in education and other operational areas, create an opportunity for us to redesign how we fundamentally deliver care.
The models we use today have produced good outcomes over the years, but they lack consistency across facilities and are neither as reliable nor as satisfying as healthcare demands and patients deserve. To achieve this objective, HCA Healthcare is creating the Care Transformation and Innovation Department, focused on creating a better patient care model that is supported by a centralized technology platform delivering real-time clinical insights.
Today, we have many great innovations that occur inside our company, but there are many that are developed outside, too. This department will be responsible for systematically evaluating, supporting, and harvesting these creative solutions for broader implementation. As an organization that aspires to excellence and innovation, we are excited to add this timely and essential function.

Responding to stroke 38% faster than the national standard
Stroke is one of the most time-sensitive conditions in all of medicine. Fast treatment is crucial to saving a life. Every minute counts. The quicker a stroke is recognized and the quicker a patient gets treatment, long-term brain damage and/or death can potentially be avoided.

MyHealthONE Provider Report Update
The Information Blocking rules from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) require all healthcare providers, including HCA Healthcare, to make certain documents available to patients. Recent clarifications of those rules required us to remove any delays in the availability of the documents to patients via the patient portal.
All planned document delays were eliminated on May 17, 2021 for pathology reports, radiology reports and procedure notes. Starting June 15, MHO will also include disclaimer language for patients to see prior to viewing these notes in the portal.
