As we begin a new year, I am excited for the future of nursing at HCA Healthcare. The Nursing Strategy structure builds upon four key pillars that are at the heart of our mission: Staffing and Care Team Support, Advocacy and Leadership, Education and Academic Partnerships and Professional Practice. The framework was developed with your voice to elevate our nursing culture, operations and care delivery.
Our focus on the pillars is linked to the larger aim of improving HCA Healthcare’s external nursing reputation, retaining our nursing workforce, enhancing transition programs for new graduate nurses and ensuring an adequate support structure is in place for our experienced nurses and leadership teams. In the coming months, I plan to use this forum to dive deeper into each of the pillars, to share strategic updates, operational goals, field priorities and highlight our facility nursing leadership teams that are leading the way in support of patient care.

2023 Patricia Frist Memorial Scholarship applications are open until Feb. 15
The Patricia Frist Memorial Scholarship, established and funded by the HCA Healthcare Foundation to support eligible dependents of HCA Healthcare colleagues in pursuing post-secondary education, offers merit-based scholarships of up to $5,000 for higher education expenses. The application for the 2023-2024 school year is open now.
Each year, nurses have represented the largest group of colleagues whose children were awarded scholarships. Last year, these students received 175 scholarships totaling $588,250 in awards.

Galen College of Nursing opens Asheville Campus
As part of our commitment to educate a growing number of future nurses, HCA Healthcare opened another campus for Galen College of Nursing in Asheville, North Carolina. Bringing Galen into the HCA Healthcare family was designed to combine two leading nursing organizations to increase access to nursing education and to provide nursing career development opportunities for HCA Healthcare colleagues.
