The powerful lessons of the past year make it clear that the delivery of healthcare must undergo a step-change in how we care for patients across HCA Healthcare. We see this imperative as a strategic opportunity to further our mission. By leveraging our leadership capacity, scale, clinical data, and experience, we can meet this challenge and drive transformational change, limit variation, and improve outcomes across multiple dimensions.
To achieve this objective, I am creating the Care Transformation and Innovation Department within the Clinical Operations Group (COG). Dr. Michael Schlosser will lead this department as Senior Vice-President for Care Transformation and Innovation and report to Dr. Jon Perlin. In this role, Mike will develop a structured approach to care transformation and clinical innovation focused on creating a better patient care model that is supported by a centralized technology platform delivering real-time clinical insights. Obviously, he will partner with our Information Technology Group (ITG), nursing, and many others throughout the organization to evolve this strategy.
Technological advancements in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, robotic process automation, and telemedicine, combined with investments we are making in education and other operational areas, create an opportunity for us to redesign how we fundamentally deliver care. The models we use today have produced good outcomes over the years, but they lack consistency across facilities and are neither as reliable nor as satisfying as healthcare demands and patients deserve.
The next generation care models will integrate real time insights from these advanced technologies into clinical care protocols and produce greater visibility into these activities, allowing us to deliver world-class outcomes for our patients. Not only do we believe that this approach can produce higher quality care, but we expect that it will create a better environment to practice for our nurses, other clinical staff, and physicians, making them even more effective. Our IT Group is developing a plan to bring more of these capabilities to our company. This plan will include notable system changes offering improved digital platforms and better enabled partnerships with other entities.
As part of his role, Dr. Schlosser will coordinate the development of a clinical innovation hub hospital that will serve as a home for formulation, testing, and production of new innovations and care models that address current pressures and future needs. The process to identify this hospital and other satellite innovation centers is currently underway. Today, we have many great innovations that occur inside our company, but there are many that are developed outside, too. This department will be responsible for systematically evaluating, supporting, and harvesting these creative solutions for broader implementation.
As an organization that aspires to excellence and innovation, we are excited to add this timely and essential function. Dr. Schlosser is a board certified neurosurgeon who has most recently served as the CMO for the National Group in addition to other corporate areas. He previously served as the inaugural CMO for HealthTrust and in various physician leadership roles at TriStar Centennial Medical Center while practicing neurosurgery.
