Raising the Bar through Nursing Excellence Site Visits
At HCA Healthcare, we are at our best when we are connected at all levels of the organization, and nowhere is this more true or important than across our nursing ranks. One way we foster a two-way dialogue to support that connection is through Nursing Excellence Site Visits, which allow our nurse leaders – CNOs, ACNO, and directors – to tell us their experiences in implementing our Nursing Strategy and share the results they are achieving.

Specifically, objectives of these site visits are to:

  • Continue sharing and focus on the Nursing Strategy across our facilities
  • Enhance connection between new senior nurse leaders and facility leadership teams
  • Provide a nursing specific forum for dialogue and feedback on the nursing agenda
  • Serve as a platform for sharing best practices across the organization
  • Highlight high-performing nurse leaders

Through these site visits, senior nurse leaders and other colleagues have an opportunity to learn from nurses across HCA Healthcare. We have gleaned many ideas and best practices from these facility presentations, which we share with other divisions to improve our ability to implement our quality, safety and staffing models of care.

Following a recent site visit at HCA Florida Ocala, one nurse leader told us, “It was a great experience for our team to put this presentation together and reflect on all we have been able to accomplish. Sometimes we don’t take time to stop and realize what a great team we have and all that we are doing!”

And importantly, we’ve heard many moving stories around our pandemic experiences and how we have continued to “raise the bar” and “care like family” – not only for our patients and families but for each other.

We look forward to continuing these conversations, and to learning from all of you through site visits and other nursing forums.

Introducing the Mental Health and Wellness Colleague Network

At HCA Healthcare, we care like family for our patients and each other. The new Mental Health and Wellness Colleague Network seeks to provide a safe community and supportive network for colleagues to come together to learn and talk about mental and emotional health. The network strives to reduce the stigma often associated with mental health, and promote awareness, hope, acceptance, and individual empowerment.

Amy Rushton, CNE and Vice President of Behavioral Health Services, will serve as the Executive Sponsor for the Mental Health and Wellness Colleague Network. Executive Sponsors serve as the enterprise-wide voice for their designated Colleague Network, championing chapter initiatives, elevating relevant issues and providing colleague feedback to senior leadership.

The Mental Health and Wellness Colleague Network will provide opportunities to prioritize holistic wellbeing in a community setting and is a collaborative partnership that includes HCA Healthcare’s Emotional Wellbeing Group, Human Resources, Behavioral Health Services, and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Soon, division DEI leaders will be establishing local chapters, allowing colleagues to collectively design initiatives that support mental health and wellness in their respective communities.

If you are interested in joining this community, including serving as a chapter leader, contact your Division DEI leader.

Visit the Colleague Networks page on the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Atlas site for more information.
